Together we can stay ahead of Covid-19.  In this virtual online forum, Dr. Debra Kamin Mukaz will discussed prevention, treatment and more.  A postdoctoral associate at the Laboratory for Clinical Biochemistry Research at the University of Vermont, she works to analyze and interpret cardiovascular and cardiometabolic data (including COVID-19)

About Dr. Debra Kamin Mukaz:
Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dr. Debora Kamin Mukaz earned her B.A. in Biology and French from Luther College. At Luther College, she developed a strong interest in scientific research and conducted an honor senior thesis on the genetics of race and ancestry. Dr. Kamin Mukaz went on to obtain an MS degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware. Her research sought to understand the role of TMEM16F, a platelet protein, in hemostasis and thrombosis. Last year, Dr. Kamin Mukaz was awarded a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Delaware. Her doctoral work examined the epidemiology of diabetes in African migrants to the United States. Currently, Dr. Kamin Mukaz is a postdoctoral associate at the Laboratory for Clinical Biochemistry Research at the University of Vermont. The focus of her work is to analyze and interpret cardiovascular and cardiometabolic data (including COVID-19) for the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS). The REGARDS is a long-running national study, which has been extensively funded by the NIH. The goal of the study is to better understand racial and regional disparities in stroke. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Kamin Mukaz has presented her work at various conferences. Her scientific research has also earned her numerous prizes and awards from organizations such as the International Diabetes Federation, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Heart Association. Dr. Kamin Mukaz’s deepest desire is to make science accessible to groups, which have been historically excluded from academic research.
